About this Project

The design of the Ballarat Tram Museum was tailored to meet the unique requirements of displaying and preserving vintage trams. The facility features a spacious, open-plan layout with high ceilings and reinforced tracks, allowing trams to be easily moved and displayed in an authentic manner. With natural lighting and modern insulation, the structure provides an optimal environment for protecting the trams while enhancing visibility for visitors.

The building features a Colorbond Trimdeck roof complemented by an exterior clad in a mix of Colorbond Metrospan, Trimdeck, and Corri cladding, creating a low-maintenance façade that aligns with the museum’s industrial style.

Operable louver windows are positioned at the top of the clerestory, providing natural light and ventilation, to help regulate the temperature inside. This thoughtful design enhances visitor comfort and also contributes to the preservation of the historical trams displayed in the museum. The integration of these elements contributes to a welcoming and functional space that respects both contemporary needs and the museum’s heritage character.
